14-09-2023: WUR recognition & rewards: what is in it for you regarding Open Science?
Theo Jetten will present the new proposed academic career framework at WUR, which is foreseen to take effect from 2024 onwards. The framework is a new system of recognition and rewards for all academic staff, i.e. lecturers, assistant, associate and personal professors and researchers. The recognition and rewards of research outputs, such as research data and software, will also impact support staff (e.g. model stewards or data stewards). Theo will take you through the new proposed way of recognizing and rewarding activities, with specific attention for Open Science and Research Data. More information can be found on our website.
23-11-2023: CoreBirds: Connecting Open Research outputs in the Ecology of Birds
Joey Burant and Stefan Vriend (Animal Ecology, NIOO-KNAW) will give an interactive workshop about data standards and/or documenting code (exact topic to be decided). With the CoreBirds team, they were awarded a grant of the NWO Open Science fund. This seminar will take place in the NIOO-KNAW Colloquium. More information will follow later.

31-08-2023: National Open Science Festival Rotterdam
Get ready for the third edition of the Netherlands National Open Science Festival! After last year's successful event with over 300 visitors, this year the festival will be held at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Like the previous editions, the festival revolves around sharing knowledge and peer learning: it is aimed at both active researchers from universities (of applied sciences), academic hospitals and research institutes in the Netherlands, and policy makers who enable Open Science practices to spread throughout the academic world. In several workshops and sessions you will exchange experiences and learn about the current state of affairs regarding Open Science. These will all be in-person, as only the plenary sessions will be livestreamed. For more information, see opensciencefestival.nl.
31-08-2023: "Peer Community In Agriculture" at the National OS Festival Rotterdam
At 14.00, David Katzin, researcher at WUR, will introduce the concept of Peer Community (PCI), a unique non-profit and open peer review and publication system, to the general audience. Building a peer community specifically for the agricultural sciences is particularly relevant for OSC-W and WUR.
05-09-2023: Open Science day Tilburg University
Tilburg University is organising an Open Science day: 'For this one-day symposium, we invite scholars at all career stages and all academic fields to reflect on what it means to adopt responsible science in fields of qualitative and mixed-method approaches and to propose concrete and practical ways to open up research responsibly. The event will feature a keynote address by Sabina Leonelli, who receives an honorary doctorate at Tilburg University at the opening of the academic year, and a round table with invited speakers. The rest of the day consists out of parallel sessions with individual presentations in which worries, reflections, conceptualizations, case-studies, lessons-learned, tips and tricks can be shared. The day will be moderated by Sicco de Knecht, former editor of science guide and project leader of Utrecht University's open science programme.' More information can be found on their website.
NWO Open Science Fund: new call, deadline 26 September 2023!
The NWO Open Science Fund 2023 is open again for applications, with a deadline on 26 September. The grants - with a maximum of €50,000 per project - are intended to support projects that are specifically designed to implement and stimulate open science practices. In total 30 projects will receive grants. Last time WUR was involved in 5 of the 30 granted projects. More information can be found on their website.
02-10-2023: SENSE course: Embracing openness: an introduction to Open Science practices (1.0 ECTS).
This course is composed of five modules based on various teaching activities, including lectures, podcasts, guided discussions/debates, and exercises. PhD candidates and other early career researchers will finish the course with an Open Science plan for their own work. Register here.
25-10-2023: DelftX Open Science MOOC
The enrolment for the DelftX Open Science MOOC is now open. In this introductory course, you will learn the objectives, main concepts, and benefits of Open Science principles along with practices for Open Data management and Open Data sharing.
25-10-2023: Dutch Reproducibility Network - launch symposium, University of Amsterdam
The one-day event will bring together stakeholders from different parts of the research ecosystem — including peer-led grassroots initiatives, research institutions, research support services, and external stakeholders — to build connections, identify needs and resources, showcase existing efforts, and start shaping the reproducibility agenda.
